Records Management

 

With the ever more congested seabed it is becoming more important than ever to ensure system records are kept up to date in a well managed and timely manner. Records management should not be seen as a "nice to have" or forgotten about. It is an essential part of the maintenance of any cable system ensuring system security and above all helping to reduce costs.

Global Marine Systems has an experienced records management department that offers this service to the industry. All pertinent survey and as laid records are managed and updated following repairs, re-routes or crossings with other cables and pipelines. This is reflected on the Route Position List (RPL), Straight Line Diagram (SLD) and as laid charts. Records are updated accurately and promptly and posted on a secure web server for instant access by the customer.

Global Marine Systems offers an experienced and knowledgeable workforce as well as robust procedures and quality control measures gained during the 150 year lifespan of the company. This coupled with the latest software ensures we provide an unrivalled service to the industry.

We also have an in-depth knowledge of other cable projects, helping to ensure that any impact to the existing cable by new systems can be identified at an earlier stage.

Our service provides a fully auditable records management system with easily accessible RPLs, SLDs, charts, Repair reports etc. This helps to ensure that ISO audit accreditation can be acquired and retained.

On receipt of original records they are all checked for errors, standardised and recorded. Following receipt of updated reports the relevant data is analysed and added to the as laid records. This process checks for errors in the supplied data and ensures data integrity.

A web based GIS is also offered. This provides a further level of intelligence to the records, providing the following functions:

  • Full coordinate control and distance measurement.
  • Quick access to vast amounts of geographically referenced data.
  • Numerous data layers can be overlaid.
  • Statistical analysis based on geographic location.
  • Electronic Admiralty charts.
  • Inclusion of survey and as laid route data.
