Joining the company in 1989, Capt. Hibberd has served as Ships' Master and Cableship Commander with Global Marine Systems Limited since October 1993. He is currently our Fleet Operations Manager and DPA.
Simon has extensive experience of cable work with a wide-ranging record of successful cable installation, cable maintenance, cable survey and remedial cable burial operations achieved.
His cable installation work, as Master, include:
- Eight Mainlay segments of the Brazil Domestic coastal Festoon cable system
- Mainlay Installation of PC1 Segment N2a (North pacific winter).
- Mainlay Installation of TAT14 Segments N & J
- Mainlay Installation of EAC Segments F3,F2,G,F1n,Kw Pt 1 & Kw Pt 2b
- Mainlay Installation of EAC2 Segments 2a Pt 1 & Segment 2b1
Capt. Hibberd has an impressive record of cable repairs undertaken on telecom systems as diverse as PTAT, Gemini North, Gemini South, ECFS, APCN, CIRCE North, EAC and the Transpower FO No.8 system in the Cook Strait. He has also represented the company in beach civil works, including two shore-end cable replacements in St. Lucia.
He has central government clearance for work on UK/US military cables.
Capt. Hibberd has a wealth of experience of numerous remotely operated vehicle types including tracked vehicles, cable ploughs, work-class ROV's and the MOD SAR facility LR5.
A qualified DPO since December 1996, Simon has undertaken the role of dsv DPO Master for Global Marine and supported marine salvage operations with saturation and hard-suit divers. He has completed an Audit Report on a newly installed DP2 facility onboard the msv Fu Lai and in 2004 was involved in the DP2 salvage operation in the Gulf of Mexico to recover the Drilling platform Ensco 64 that collapsed during the passage of Hurricane Ivan through the Gulf of Mexico.
Simon developed, and has delivered in the field since May 2005, Global Marine's Internal Dynamic Positioning and Acoustics Course.
He is a qualified ISM Maritime Lead Auditor.
Simon accepted the position of Fleet Operations Manager in January 2007 and is currently Global Marine's DPA (Designated Person Ashore).
