Social Responsibilities
Global Marine, recognises that its social responsibilites extend beyond the direct impact that its business has on the environment and society and takes its role very seriously: to stand firmly behind its commitment to making a lasting social contribution to communities.
We are currently involved in the following projects:
Nino's Pag-Asa Centre (Olongopo City, Phillipines)
The Nino's Pag-Asa Centre is authorised and licensed to operate as a social work agency that gives medical assistance, educational programmes, skills training and community based rehab. This means that they not only look after those who are resident, but will also educate and assist other children in the local community.
It is located in Old Cabalan in Olongopo City, Philippines, consisting of two buildings, one large which houses the two offices, housemothers accommodation dowstairs, with a large hall, nursery and two classrooms upstairs. The second building, which Global Marine assisted in the building of, hosts the shop, sewing classroom, boys and girls bedrooms and the kitchen.
Education is a large part of the children’s lives. They are taught to sew, read, write, speak, and sign; as well as mainstream lessons such as physical education.
A scheme to match the children with UK pen pals will also be initiated as soon as possible. It is intended that children of GMSL employees will be encouraged to write to the children in the orphanage.
Though Global Marine Systems is the largest contributor to the Orphanage it is also supported by Action Japan and St Andrews Singapore, who also ensure the survival of this good cause.
Essex Wildlife Trust (UK)
The Essex Wildlife Trust is a member of 'The Wildlife Trusts', a partnership of 46 wildlife trusts across Britian who work together to benefit wildlife. We hold a gold membership within this trust as we feel it is important to give a contribution back to the environment.
Porthcurno Telegraph Museum (UK)
We contribute to the Porthcourno Telepgraph Museum which is an independent educational charity to preserve the historical buildings and collections at Porthcurno, the home of the British Empire's first international telecommunications network. The two major activities are operation of the award-winning Porthcurno Telegraph Museum and the management of the historic archive of photographs, films and documents and proves to be an important centre for the study of the history of communications.
