Global Marine presents at Submarine Communications 2006
Chelmsford, UK/Lisbon, Portugal: Global Marine Systems Limited, the independent market-leading subsea cable installation and maintenance company, is pleased to announce that its Head of Submarine Network Systems, Andy Bax, will be presenting “Key Considerations When Deploying New Technologies and Applications in Submarine Communications” on Thursday 30th March at 9.10am. Later that morning at 11.50am, Andy will also participate in an industry panel discussion entitled, “Evaluating Cable Systems Models – Choosing the Right System for Your Network”.
Further to Global Marine’s recent acquisition in January 2006 of the assets of Red Sky Systems, a developer of submarine network technology, Andy’s presentation will examine key factors that newer optical fibre technologies need to ensure longer reaches, wider bandwidths and higher speeds. In addition, his presentation will evaluate the cost considerations involved in using new technologies including the costs of deployment, maintenance, operation and upgrade capability. It will also assess the ability of new technologies and applications to improve the resilience of submarine networks.
Commenting today, Andy Bax said, “Considering the capabilities of today’s terrestrial networks - delivering vast amounts of capacity over greater distances with a high degree of performance and reliability, submarine networks, by comparison, still lag far behind. In an ideal world, the cost effective benefits and functionality of the terrestrial network should be seamlessly integrated into a submarine network, and the latter would be much simpler than what is currently available today."
Red Sky technology enables a simple integration of terrestrial and submarine networks and, through this technology, Global Marine will be able to offer network operators a more cost-effective and uncomplicated means of running or upgrading their networks relative to traditional submarine solutions. When combined with industry standard subsea components, the unique Red Sky Optical Line Interface (OLI) allows network managers to operate subsea networks using industry standard applications common to terrestrial networks.
Submarine Communications 2006 is the 2-day European conference and networking event exclusively dedicated to telecom connectivity delivered by submarine cable. Global Marine is the refreshment break sponsor at the event and, in addition to Andy Bax, other Global Marine representatives in Lisbon will be, Chris Brooks, Sales Director, Jonathan Annals and John Neal, Strategic Account Directors and Paul Deslandes, Key Accounts Manager.
