Global Marine strengthens Asia Pacific presence with appointment of General Manager in Singapore

Chelmsford, UK/Singapore, Global Marine Systems Limited, the independent market-leading subsea cable installation and maintenance company, has appointed John Walters as General Manager for its Singapore office.

John will report to Ian Douglas, Global Marine’s Director for the Asia Pacific Region. In this capacity John will be responsible for all direct Global Marine business across the region. Key responsibilities will include overseeing maintenance contract and project management, coordinating sales activities and customer account management John has worked for Global Marine since 1999 and most recently held the position of Installation Project Manager, Asia.

Commenting today, Ian Douglas said, “John is an ex-master mariner, with extensive marine engineering experience in the Asia Pacific region.  Since joining Global Marine he has helped manage some of our largest installation projects and his blend of skills and experience will continue to benefit existing and attract new customers.”

In conjunction with its Asian joint venture partners, Global Marine recently completed the cable installation of segment 2 of the Jasuka project in Indonesia during April of this year.  Earlier this month, it also completed the cable repair of a tsunami early warning system for the Japan Agency for Marine-Earth Science and Technology (JAMSTEC) off Muroto Cape, Japan.

Douglas concluded, “As Global Marine continues to develop its Asia Pacific customer offering, Singapore remains a key growth market for us and John’s appointment is pivotal in helping the company build upon the recent customer successes across the region.”
