Dave Foster

Captain Dave Foster has been at sea for more than 40 years. After sailing on general cargo ships and oil tankers he joined Global Marine Systems Limited (then Cable and Wireless) in 1973, and spent his first commission on Cable Enterprise and Recorder based in Fiji.

He has subsequently sailed on most of the companies vessels and has enjoyed base ports of Avonmouth, Bermuda, Victoria B.C., Hawaii, Singapore, Shanghai, Auckland and Subic Bay. For seven years Dave chose to specialise in cable laying aboard Cable Venture, and subsequently laid more systems as Commander of Cable Innovator, Fu Lai and Mercury.

Over his 33 years cableship experience, Dave has been in command for 20 years, and has laid 55 cables and carried out more cable repairs than he cares to remember. His experience also includes researching and writing cable route desk studies, surveying new cable routes and carrying out shore end work from the beach.
