Captain Tony Rawlings has vast experience in oil industry shipping and began his career with Shell Tankers (UK) in 1975.
In 1986 he then followed a family tradition and became a carver, turner and general restorer in the antique furniture trade - a hobby that continues to this day (Anthony specialises in 18th and 19th century occasional furniture at competitive prices!)
He returned to shipping in 1988 when he joined BT Marine as a navigator and since then has laid cables all over the world. His vast range of experience includes cable laying, repairs and continually developing ploughs and ploughing techniques to ensure the highest possible customer service standards.
In the early 1990's, at the start of the commercial availability of GPS, Anthony led the team who put the first PC based navigation/survey package on BT cable ships.
Renowned for his "overwhelming modesty", Tony describes himself as a thoroughly "good egg" and is a member of the Furniture History Society. He lives in Cumbria with his wife and two children.
