Nigel Daniel

Captain Nigel Daniel has spent 17 of his 30 years in the submarine cable industry working at sea.

He began his career as a Deck Cadet with Ocean Fleets (Blue Funnel & Elder Dempsters) before moving onto Jardine Mathesons. His first command was aboard Seaspread, where he worked on numerous projects on the West Coast of the United States of America.

Nigel’s first fibre optic repair in command came about through what was meant to be a “quick survey” on the Portsmouth Ryde system as an Acting Cable Officer, supervising a dive team to locate a cable fault. However, having turned up on the quay at Southampton he was presented with a barge and small team of cable hands, jointers andnd divers and told to go and fix it!

Since joining Global Marine, Nigel has moved around the fleet and is presently serving aboard Sovereign where, amongst other projects, he holds responsibility for power cable installations.

Nigel is a sailing fanatic, ranging from racing classic dinghies right through to modern yachts. As a resident of Axmouth, Devon – the first recorded village in the county to press cider in 1286, he also enjoys making cider.
