Atlas 2 ROV
The Atlas 2 ROV is a powerful thruster controlled swimming / tracked vehicle capable of operating down to a water depth of 2000m.
The vehicle has a total power of 300kW (400hp) using a single motor, fitted with two variable delivery constant pressure oil pumps. In tracked mode, up to 250kW is available for jetting with the tracks operating at maximum power of 10kW. This leaves 40kW for the thrusters. In free fly mode with skids fitted, a typical scenario would be 200kW used for jetting, leaving 100kW for the thrusters. The operator manually adjusts the proportion of power given to the thrusters or jetting tools depending on operational requirements.
Key Features
- Purpose built to give all thrusters a clear path for water flow maximising thrust and minimising power consumption
- Conventional arrangement of four 500mm thrusters in the horizontal plane at 45° to the direction of travel
- Four 380mm vertical thrusters to give control of pitch and vertical motion
- Lightweight tracks that typically carry about 600kg of contact force resulting in up to 300kg of traction
- Vertical thrusters are capable of lifting the vehicle, in the water column, with the tracks fitted
- Tracks are removable and skids can be fitted instead
- Main jet legs are designed to carry a relatively small number of large diameter jets
- Main jet tool systems comprise two jet legs which swing down to provide depth control; both legs move in and out to locate on the cable and to pass repeaters and joints
- Second jet tool is mounted at the front of the vehicle
- Eductor (jet pump) can be fitted to the ROV arrangement using the current water supply without compromise to the core ROV or major increase in system weight
- Cable tools suite is provided for cable work including cutting, clamping and general manipulation tasks
